The Grass Street Youth and Sports Club of Mon Repos proudly announces the seventh annual Kevin Malcolm Memorial 5K Run/Walk and Kids Half-Mile Dash, scheduled for December 23, 2023. More than just a race, this event symbolizes a beacon of unity and resilience within our community, particularly in these challenging times marked by the troubling rise in crime rates and numerous social issues.
This charitable gathering is a tribute to the life and spirit of the late Kevin Malcolm. Renowned for his exceptional character and unwavering dedication, Kevin was an integral figure at the Grass Street Youth and Sports Club and an avid long-distance runner. Despite his battle with bone cancer, his strength, charisma, and humor shone brightly. Regrettably, Kevin passed away on June 4, 2014.
Beyond honoring Kevin's legacy, this event embodies a larger mission. At a time when our nation grapples with various social challenges, the proceeds from this year's race will continue to support the Malcolm family, especially assisting Kevin's youngest sister, Merdea, who has endured profound loss. Moreover, the funds raised will be allocated to initiatives focused on bolstering our community's social fabric and addressing the prevalent challenges we face.
Participating in this professionally organized and community-driven event is more than just a race; it's an opportunity to honor Kevin Malcolm's memory and contribute to endeavors promoting an active lifestyle, supporting the Kevin Malcolm Memorial scholarship fund, and initiating positive change within our community and across the nation. Join us at the finish line celebration featuring St. Lucy’s Steel Pan, local DJ Mc Vybz, and $5 mini massages from Purity Day Spa. All participants will receive a refreshing drink and a snack.
