Kristallmarathon im Erlebnis Bergwerk Merkers

You always wanted to be sure about the weather conditions at race day? You always wanted to avoid rain or snow disturbing your marathon? You always wanted to eliminate the risk of too high or too low temperatures? Okay - Merkers is the perfect location for you. The "Kristallmarathon" in Merkers takes place in a salt mine located 500 meters underground. You will have 18 degrees Celsius and 35% humidity. The adventure already begins, when you get down to the mine with a huge lift, together with about 50 other runners. Then you have to climb onto an open truck which will bring you to the start and finish area, a large hall inside the mine, with high speed. There the organization team will check your equipment. All runners have to wear a helmet and a headlight. This is a legal provision for everybody moving through mines in Germany - even for runners. Now you will have to run 13 times the same loop of mine galleries. In total you have to deal with 765 meters of difference in altitude up and down. Only 400 meters of the loop are flat. Therefore it never gets boring, although you will be supported only by very few spectators. Of course you will probably not reach your personal best under these conditions, but you will have fun and an unforgettable experience!
