This is hands-down one of my favorite marathons in the world. Super scenic in Hong Kong’s beautiful country park, not crowded, hilly and flat, a real runner’s run as it is put on by the Athletic Veteran’s Association and spearheaded by dedicated volunteers. The marathon is a double loop through stage 1 of the Maclehose Trail, also UNSECO Heritage designated GeoPark that encases High Island Reservoir. Prizes are given to many categories and this marathon is way way way less crowded than the Hong Kong Standard Chartwr and way way way more intimate! Gorgeous route.
Full Marathon is a challenging but gorgeous course!

Well organised, lots of water stations throughout, smaller event than the Standard Chartered Marathon in HK the week prior so it isn't too crowded. Free buses to Sai Kung (45 minute direct bus ride from central), buses depart promptly at 6am for an 8m start. No transport options organised on the way back towards HK Central so public transport (public bus followed by 2 metro train switches) took 1.5-2 hours. Beautiful water views en route - coastal run with lots of fresh air.
Half marathon, Full marathon and 10K running parallel to each other at the event. Route clearly marked with lots of volunteers.
