‘Yankee Doodle’
5K and Kids Fun Run/Walk
Pets and Strollers Welcome
8AM, June 30, 2024
Kids Race will start at 8:45AM
Fort Steilacoom Park
Come run with the big dogs this PRE-Independence Day Weekend!
Join us on June 30th in Lakewood’s Fort Steilacoom Park.
Run, walk, race – bring your friendly pet along or push a stroller – and earn that medal!
Experience the 5K route that is built for speed while enjoying all the beauty Fort Steilacoom has to offer.
Find your motivation and see if you have what it takes – which you do- to find the finish line!
This Just TRI event is located inside the gorgeous Fort Steilacoom Park, using the paved Waughop Lake loop and the multi-use trails. This course is suitable for furry pets and strollers. However, take the time to review the route and understand the multi-use trail system. Although pets and strollers are welcome on the course, each participant must ensure the route is achievable for their pet and not too rugged for their respective stroller.
Water will be available along the well-marked route along with refreshments at the start and finish.
Athletes will finish through the big Just TRI Finish arch and receive Just TRI Finisher Medals and T-Shirt (5K). Our little athletes will receive a medal after completion of the Kids Fun/Walk. Race shirts will be available for purchase.
5K RUN/WALK - Including pets and strollers
The official course map will be released closer to race day, so check back soon. Fort Steilacoom Park has many on-going trail improvements, so we don’t want to put the stroller before the athlete! The 5K course will include at least one loop around Waughop Lake. Stay tuned for the exact routes.
We are allowing strollers and pets on the course. This is a BIG deal, right?! We want the entire family involved, so bring your pets, bring your littles ones, and bring a friend. Be sure you are comfortable running with your leashed pet or while pushing a stroller. Be sure you are comfortable with the routes and the condition of the running surface. While we know pets and parents with strollers have navigated these routes in the past, you must decide if the course is feasible and will meet your expectations.
ALL Pets must be leashed in the park and during the race. We strongly encourage the adherence to all park rules.
The 5K is completely inside Fort Steilacoom Park and will be mostly flat and fast. Participants are encouraged to go at their own pace while running or walking. Whether you take it fast or slow – be safe and have fun.
The course will follow the best part of Fort Steilacoom Park, running along the beautiful shores of Waughop Lake. Segments of the run will use the charming multi-use trail system. There may be some hill elements, but nothing crazy! The multi-use trails in the park are easily traversable and are accessible for pets and strollers. In fact, the entire family can enjoy this alluring run, walk, or stroll around the park.
Stay tuned for the official routes!
KIDS FUN RUN/WALK
We always like to include the kids on race day! All participants – ages 10 and under - run for fun! Each child will receive a great looking Medal, desirable for children. Parents, pets, family, and friends are welcome and encouraged to complete this fun race/walk alongside the kids. Have fun with the whole family!
RACE DAY
Please be sure to review the course! The Staff will know the course, but it is up to the athlete to know all the course details! Make this your personal best by staying on course!
All Steilacoom Park rules must be strictly adhered to. Including PET Leash rules. Pets absolutely must be leashed during all events.
Athlete Day of Race Check-in will start at 6AM at the start line inside FORT STEILACOOM PARK!
Day of the race check in gets crazy! We try to streamline this process as much as possible. Bib numbers for people wanting to register on the day of the race will be preassigned in our system. No additional swag will be handed out at this time – just the shirt and number.
Course maps will be posted at packet pick up and at the park on race day.
The Kids 1 mile will start at approximately 8:45, which will allow 5K participants to finish their race and be able to watch (or participate in) the Kids Run. The Kids Run is meant to be simple and just for fun. They will receive a bib number, and all finishers get a medal. There will be no finisher time for the Kids Run– the race is intended to be non-competitive. Shirts may be available for purchase.
The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged at this race. To enjoy all that our race has to offer and for the safety of all participants, Just TRI encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of the event.
Just TRI events are for the most part cup less, as we TRI to be Earth friendly, but additionally due to COVID protocols and health safety standards. We will have some cups for those who do not have refillable bottles. Please bring your own container that can be refilled at our aid stations.
Results will be posted after the race, see RunLakewood.com
