West Mass 100 – about 100 miles, about 9000 feet of climbing. Provisional route, this is not final, it will be updated with a final version the week of the event. General shape will stay the same: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/47377530
Piloting this event this year--let's see how it goes and maybe we can make it a bigger thing. Southern New England needs more ultra mtb events! This is not a gravel ride or a fondo, there are numerous legitimate mountain bike sectors.
This is an ambitious ride. The main food and water stop a little before the halfway point is the Cummington Creamery coop at 45 miles in. At the 66 mile mark you'll find Pete's house on Poplar Hill Road, where Pete has generously offered to stock a water stop for West Mass 100 riders. This will be marked on the ride with gps file (see above). After that the next easy water and food stop is in Florence. There will be a number of natural water sources on the route if you want to roll with a purifier.
Fully self-supported ride--no sag wagon, no neutral support. Bring a buddy, there's no ride leader or sweep. Bring a phone and tools and be ready with a bailout plan for yourself. You can go fast if you want, or slow, but take it easy and yield to all trail and road users when they have the right of way.
If you're planning to ride on Sunday, August 4, please do sign up here. We'll email the final gpx route in the days before the event. If you would like the gpx file but don't want to or can't do the ride, you'll find the link here and at our instagram page.
Park your car or ride to the start at 142 Pleasant Street, Easthampton, MA (the rear of Eastworks). We will roll at 7am sharp. Pizza party after party at our friends and generous sponsor Vegan Pizza Land. Hang out and order a pizza and a beer (NAs usually available) in the back patio of Abandoned Building Brewery when your ride is done. Free pizza to the men's and women's winners (to be determined later by submitted gps files of your ride).
