Did you know that every classroom in America will have at least one student diagnosed with Autism? As of April 2023, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported astonishing updates on the prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder. 1 in 36 children ages 3-17 will be diagnosed with Autism. This means that nearly 500 people in Jasper alone are diagnosed with ASD. 1 in 36. These are our children, our family members, our friends, our coworkers, our classmates, our neighbors, our community. 1 in 36 - 3.6 Miles for Autism Awareness is Presented by: Total Care ABA. We welcome everyone to join us on May 4th, 2023 to wrap up the month of April, Autism Awareness Month. This year's Autism Awareness walk will benefit the Jasper Youth Mayor Leadership Council. JMYLC is a group of high school students who engage in service opportunities that benefit the Jasper community. The 2023-2024 project is Communication Boards (signs) in 8 of the Jasper parks! Many on the spectrum as well as with other developmental disabilities struggle with communicating. Having communication boards in the parks will allow for more inclusivity, safety, and most importantly fun!
