Kia Fjällmaraton Årefjällen is Sweden’s most iconic mountain running event. The 45 km flagship race, Kia 45K, leads runners through the rugged beauty of the Jämtland Triangle, crossing three alpine peaks: Ottfjället, Hållfjället, and Välliste. With 1,800 meters of elevation gain, technical trails, and exposed highlands, it demands endurance and mountain skills from even the most seasoned runners. The race starts in Vålådalen and finishes at Trillevallen mountain station, surrounded by cheering crowds, sweeping vistas, and a genuine fjällmarathon spirit. Since its debut in 2005, the event has grown into a full mountain running week featuring 10 races and over 3,500 participants. From kids’ sprints to a brutal 100K ultra, the festival atmosphere blends elite sport with outdoor culture at its best.
