Madeira Swimrun

The Madeira Swimrun, known for its unique challenges and breathtaking landscapes, has been an annual fixture since 2017. Often referred to as the “Pearl of the Atlantic,” Madeira is famous for its mild climate, stunning mountainous terrain, and crystal-clear seas. This perfect setting, influenced by the warm Gulf of Mexico current, makes it an ideal destination for nature sports year-round, with sea temperatures averaging 22°C in the summer and 18°C in the winter. Participants of the Madeira Swimrun begin their adventure by being dropped off by sea at Ponta de São Lourenço, one of the island’s most iconic locations, surrounded by dramatic cliffs and a rugged coastline. From there, athletes make their way along Caniçal and toward Machico, encountering challenging trails like the climb to Pico do Facho and navigating the open seas between Prainha and Ribeira do Natal. This Swimrun course is known for its variety, combining both land and sea challenges that require endurance, skill, and an appreciation for the island's natural beauty.
