关于赛事
James Madison University Global Medical Brigades 2nd Annual Shamrock 5k is a 5k with a deeper purpose. Global Medical Brigades is a 501c(3) nonprofit organization that connects people in developing nations to healthcare through the establishment of clinics, facilities, and resources. Here at James Madison University, a chapter of this organization was created last year by Elizabeth Manning and Kayci Carrier, now our President and Vice President. Last year, with the help of the fundraising team and their efforts to start the tradition of a 5k fundraiser for the organization, they were able to send over 20 volunteers on a week-long brigade to Honduras to volunteer and serve in the community through medical care. The success of last year's 5k has allowed our organization to grow to over 40 volunteers who are preparing for their brigade in Belize this summer! To achieve this brigade, each volunteer must fundraise over $2000 and contribute towards the supplies required for the community of Belize. To do so, our 2nd Annual 5k serves as a way for our volunteers to be able to achieve their goals as 100% of the proceeds will be donated towards them and their dedicated journey to medically serve Belize!
This year the JMU Global Medical Brigades 2nd Annual Shamrock 5k is being hosted at Brix & Columns Vineyard in McGaheysville, VA (just 20 short minutes from JMU's campus). Participants will be able to run/walk the 5k through the vines and enjoy a glass of wine at a discounted price of $6, instead of $9, if they are of age after the 5k concludes.
We really appreciate everyone who makes our brigades possible and we look forward to running for a cause with everyone. Thank you so much for your time and consideration!
Sophie Bencivenga, Fundraising Head of JMU Global Medical Brigades
