Run for Recovery is a Memory/Recovery Walk and 5k to support those that are battling addiction or are in recovery and/or honor those that have lost their battle to addiction. 5k will be timed and awards will be given to overall and age group participants.
In addition, our goal is to bring awareness about the struggles, stigma, and risks of substance abuse, the resources available in our community for addiction and recovery, and build community among those affected by addiction.
All proceeds will go to local organizations helping to provide these lifesaving resources.
Race Day: January 27, 2024
Our "Why?":
Growing up with a father who battled substance abuse, addiction and its effects have always been known to me. As I got older and became a nurse, resources to assist those who, like my Dad, battled addiction became more important to me.
Fast forward to September 22, 2022 - the day addiction changed my family's life forever.
We got the phone call that our father had lost his life to a fentanyl overdose.
I went into overdrive thinking of ways I could help as many family members as possible not get that phone call we got, and as many people as possible not live the daily struggle my father did. He was a great man with the biggest heart on the planet, who battled an evil illness and faced a stigma many people will never understand every single day of his adult life.
Often people in addiction think there's no way out. Their family and friends may feel the same. We are here to shout from the rooftops that that is simply not true.
There are so many resources available, many right here in our local area, and we hope this race brings awareness to that.
We also hope this event brings people affected by addiction a place to come tell us you or your loved one's story, honor their sobriety and/or their lives, and walk alongside us in the battle against substance abuse.
