Welcome to the inaugural Prairie Fire Roadbook Rally, sure to become a "must-do" event on your annual motorcycle adventure riding calendar. Over the course of three days, you will explore the gravel and dirt roads which traverse the vast Flint Hills of east-central Kansas. You'll experience, up-close and personal, one of only two remaining tracts of natural tallgrass prairie in the entire world, which makes it the perfect place for an offroad motorcycle adventure. We'll teach you how to navigate using only a roadbook, just like the pros do in events like Dakar. (No gpx tracks will be provided.) But don't worry... this is NOT a race. No "points" for finishing first. Your only objective is to not get lost... and to enjoy the magnificant scenery along the way. Participation will be limited to 50 riders, and will be allowed on a pre-registration basis only. This is to help us properly manage the event and ensure you have an amazing experience. Bring your riding buddies... or come alone... but be sure you don't miss this event!
About the Event:
This event utilizes open public-access roads. All motorcycles MUST be fully street legal with a current license tag. Riders must obey all local, state and federal traffic laws. Riders must wear a certified helmet while riding.Your entry fee covers all three days of riding, a custom event T-Shirt, and dinner on Saturday evening. Each day you will be provided with a digital roadbook file, giving you turn-by-turn instructions which you will follow to complete that day's route. Your bike's cockpit will need to accommodate a digital roadbook holder, such as a phone or tablet with a Ram ball mount. We recommend the Rally Navigator app for Android, or the Rally Blitz Nav Pro app for iPhone. We will not provide digital gpx tracks / route files. You may use an onboard gps device for emergency navigational assistance.Friday's route is a short 65 km (40 mi.) warm-up loop that begins and ends at the Council Grove (KS) Lake, Canning Creek Campground, Group Site 2. Saturday's route and Sunday's route are both 200 km (125 mi.) loops that also begin and end at the same location as Friday's route. Each of these uniquely different loops will have a convenient mid-day lunch stop where fuel will also be available. (So fuel range should not be an issue for anyone.) Should you be exhausted or running behind schedule come lunch time, a convenient paved route back to Council Grove will be available. Remember… the objective is not to finish first… this is all about the fun of riding and navigating via a roadbook. Event headquarters and sign-in will be at the Council Grove (KS) Lake, Canning Creek Campground, Group Site 2. Come camp with us… or you can choose to obtain your own lodging in town. Camping / lodging / meals are on you. But we'll provide dinner for everyone Saturday evening.
