The 5K Mine Falls Route will take runners is a flatter course thru the trails, with some pavement during the second mile. Runners will enjoy a water stop halfway thru the race and get to enjoy beautiful scenery as almost the entire race borders the canal. For those that want the woodsy feel, but are worried about their footing, this is the perfect compromise.
Though not as difficult as some trail races, The 5 Mile Mine Falls Route is a bit more technical. Sharing the first mile with the 5K, it starts out as flat with miles 2-5 quickly diverging from the 5K and adding in elements such as elevation, roots, gnats, rocks, water crossings, and a last mile that we affectionately call The Roller Coaster Mile. Along the course: volunteers, race markings, and of course, other runners will help keep newbies from getting lost. This route does require you to pay attention to your surroundings; follow the advice of race volunteers; and make sure you keep up with the pack. For in person runners, the race has a 01:15:00 (one hour, 15 minute) cut off time, so those with longer than 15 minute mile times are encouraged to do the 5K.
Virtual Runners will have three options. The actual 5K course, the actual 5M course, Orrrrr a trail challenge. Meaning they can choose to run on any trail, in any country, at any time during the week, and submit their results. The person with the most trail miles at the end of the series wins bragging rights... and some cool swag. :)
Please note. Once it is within 24 hours of the race, you can NOT switch distances. So please choose your distance wisely. If you sign up for both the 5K and the 5 Mile, one will have to be run as a virtual.
