The Markesan T1D 5k Run/1.5 Mile Walk is an event aimed at supporting the children in the Markesan School District that battle Type One Diabetes (T1D) 24/7! The race will take place at the Markesan Middle and High School Cross Country Course.
Living with T1D, the pancreas stops producing insulin—a hormone essential to turning food into energy. Daily life with T1D brings a multitude of challenges, including insulin injections (insulin pump & glucose meters) that need to be carefully balanced with eating and activity, blood sugar monitoring and sleepless nights! Living with T1D means there are no days off and there is no cure. But there is hope...one day we can make Type One into Type None!
All donations and contributions will be donated back to the Markesan Athletic & Music Departments and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) in their continued research for a cure for T1D.
There will be pre-race packet pickup and a silent auction on donated items/gift certificates to be held Friday, October 28th until 6 pm and Saturday, October 29th from 7-9:15 am at the Markesan HS Entrance/Multipurpose Room. There will also be day of registration on the day of the race from 7-9 am.
