Come join the The Adam A. Smith Legacy Sickle Cell Foundation Inc. in observance of World Sickle Cell Day for a 5k run/walk around Lovejoy Regional Park to help raise funds for Sickle Cell Disease. Be sure to bring your entire family! If you can't make it on June 18th, we also have a virtual option.
The Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia will be onsite to offer testing for the trait for those interested! The Sickle Cell Foundation of Georgia, Inc. provides this service free at community events. Click the tab on the left for more information!
It is estimated that Sickle Cell Disease affects approximately 100,000 Americans. Sickle Cell Disease occurs among 1 out of every 365 African-American births and 1 out of every 16,300 Hispanic-American births. (SCD) is a multisystem disorder and is cited as being the most common genetic disease in the United States, with complications that can be life threatening. The Adam A. Smith Legacy Sickle Cell Foundation Inc. was established in September 2020 by ReKena Smith after her husband, Adam A. Smith transitioned suddenly after battling the lifetime illness Sickle Cell Anemia in May 2020. ReKena has a passion to support those with Sickle Cell Disease and to help others learn more about this multisystem disorder.
