Let Freedom Run 5K
Come out for a fun Independence Day 5K. Walk or run, everyone is welcome! Fortitude Outdoor Fitness offers a great space for a 5K trail event. With a competitive start at 9a & an open start (9:05 - 9:30) and a chipped /timed event, participants can show up anytime between then and complete the course.
Be sure to register by June 29th to guarantee a t-shirt!!!!
You do not have to feel rushed to get to the starting line. We have switched it up for everyone to start when they are ready and at their own pace. Timing does not start until you cross that line.
All trails are well groomed and marked off
All participants will receive a cool t-shirt (if registered by June 29th) & a finisher medal.
Donations & Proceeds from the race will go towards Respite Volunteers of Shiawassee County
RACE PLAN AND FAQ
Packet Pickup/Check-in area: There will be no on-site registration. We ask for registration tol be done online via Run Signup. You can sign up the day of the event either on your computer on or your phone. The packet pickup/check-in area will be spaced out to allow ample room for social distancing. All race volunteers will be wearing a mask and gloves. We encourage participants to wear a mask when picking up their packet.
Competitive & Open Start Line: The competitive start line will start a 9am and the open start line will be open from 9:05 am until 9:30 am. When you arrive please park, and pick up your packet (race bib, safety pins, and swag) and proceed back to your vehicle. The start line will be wide, and the space is very open to allow for proper social distancing.
Race number and chip: Your packet will contain your race number with the chip on the back, please wear your bib on the front of your shirt. Do not tamper with the bib or remove the chip. You will need to wear the race bib in order for your run/walk to be timed. If you do not wear the bib you will not be in the results.
Finish line: Once you have finished the race you will receive a finisher medal, please grab a bottle of water.
Course: The 5k course is on well-groomed hard packed trails. 10 ft wide to allow for social distancing. Running shoes are perfectly suitable for the terrain, trail shoes, or CC spikes are not needed. The Course map and a overview video are both located on the Run Signup page
Results: Results will be texted to your phone and available on-line at this web site. Please remember results will not be final until the last person has crossed the finish line at approx. 12pm. Final results will be uploaded by 1pm on race day.
Awards: Overall finishers male and female will receive free entry into a future race at Fortitude. Top 3 places in each age group will be given discounted entry into our next upcoming 5K race. Age groups for women and men are the following: 18 and under, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 and over
Parking: There is ample parking on site at Fortitude close to the start and finish line. There is plenty of room to spread out and maintain social distancing.
Participants: Participants will receive a multi purpose neck/head/face wrap. We encourage participants to wear a face mask while picking up their packet and at the start of the race.
Fluid Stations: We will provide bottled water at the finish of the race. There will be no fluid stations on the course. Bring your own water for the course.
Hand Sanitizer will be located in various areas near packet pickup
Restrooms: Restrooms will be available on site. Port-Johns will be spaced out with hand washing/sanitizing available.
Where is Owosso: Owosso is off of M-52 approximately 30 mins from Flint & Lansing, 1 to 1.5 hours from Metro Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Ann Arbor.Note: We will remain flexible with our plans to ensure this is a safe and fun event for our participants.
