Black Friday 100
On Friday, November 29th, we will repeat the best-worst idea of riding 100 miles on the Fifth Street Cross course. Jake Looney and Finn Harrington came up with this amazing idea. In addition to cycling, our running community can choose from 10k, 13mi, 26mi, and 50k options!
Please note that it is a 6-pack event, so don't forget to bring a 6-pack along with your entry fee. Alternatively, if you are not bringing a 6-pack, you can bring an additional $20 for the prize pot.
SCORING
The winner of distance events is the first person to reach the goal in your category in the shortest amount of elapsed time. That means we don't care what your ride time is; we care how much time has passed from when you started the clock.
Example: Rider A starts at midnight and finishes 100 miles at 2pm for a total elapsed time of 14 hours. Rider B starts at 7am and finishes at 4pm for 9 hours. Rider B wins because their elapsed time is less than Rider A, even though Rider A finished earlier in the day.
The winner of the timed events is the person who rides/runs the farthest distance in their category based on elapsed time.
Example: Runner A has signed up for the 100 minutes category. They start at 6am and finish at 7:40am with a distance of 9.1km. Runner B in the 100-minute category starts at 2pm and finishes at 3:40pm with a distance of 8.7km. Runner A wins.
Elapsed time does not stop for any reason. Not for mechanicals, illness, weather, etc. When you start, you start. Part of the game is choosing the correct start time for you, so you have the best shot at winning.
Relay Teams Welcome!
If you want to participate but think 100 kilometers or 100 miles might be a bit much for you, create a team! Teams are $20/person, and each member needs to bring a 6-pack (equivalent) prize for the winners of each team category.
RELAY EXCHANGES
We recommend the Computer-Baton exchange technique. Use a single Garmin or Wahoo and exchange it between riders/runners. The juniors did this in 2022 for the 100km, and it worked well.
Start Time
Anytime after midnight! It's door-busters for some of you, while the rest of us will attempt it after dawn.
All riding ends at 4:20pm. If you are on your final lap at 4:20pm, we round down to the last time you came through.
Awards
All awards will be as close to 4:20pm as possible. Winners take all the beer/prizes from their category. They are welcome to distribute to the podium.
Food and Drink
BYO-Food. We will have a grill set up. Feel free to bring something for the grill or bring your grill.
BYOB, as well.
Parking
We have limited spaces inside the Compost Center on a first-come, first-serve basis. Access to the lot is from 10pm to midnight on the 29th.
Overflow parking is in our standard Thursday night locations outside the Compost Center. Park at 164 Kline's Lane and Minor St., Emmaus, PA 18049, in the lot at the intersection, and then ride/walk into the recycling center.
