Race will be running at open to car traffic Beach Channel Drive at Rockaways. Please arrive in advance to get familiar with the course (you can drive it) and race setup.
No USA Cycling or USA Triathlon license required for this race
Verrazano Team values and acknowledging trans athletes fundamental right to participate in sports. An avid cyclist himself, Dr. O'Neal is a compassionate clinician treating populations of all backgrounds and ethnicities with empathy and respect. An active team player in group practice, regularly coordinating with other treating clinicians whether formulating comprehensive patient treatment plans or executing treatment.
New York Bike Lawyers (Flanzig and Flanzig, LLP) is a nationally recognized law firm representing the rights of seriously injured cyclists, pedestrians, and their families. We are avid cyclists and safe street advocates with a combined 65 years of experience litigating on behalf of seriously injured crash victims in New York. Partner Daniel Flanzig serves on the Board of Directors and is a legal advisor to the New York Bicycling Coalition, New York's only statewide bicycle advocacy group. Daniel serves as a "Bike Law" educator with Bike New York, the country's leading bike education program holding monthly classes around New York City educating his fellow riders on their rights if involved in a crash. Mr. Flanzig has authored numerous articles and frequently lectures on bicycle litigation in New York. He has been featured in both The New York Times and Bicycle Times Magazine for his work as a leading Bicycle Law Advocate and a New York Bike Crash Lawyer.
Empire Speed NYC is an inline speed skating club practicing in NYC and surrounding areas. With regular practice sessions in Central Park and Prospect Park, we are commited to growing the inline speed skating community and helping skaters of all ability improve their fitness and athletic abilities.
RACE DATES
This race date is Saturday, April 13th, 2024. No backup dates available!
REGISTRATION FEE
Juniors are racing totally free since our sponsors Cozine Dental Group and New York Bike Lawyers cover those registration fees.
Fields with 4 or less people registered may be combined - invite your friends!
Anyone is welcome to help as race marshal to make race safer.
REGISTRATION
Day of registration will available and close 10 minutes before race starts. Please sign up online to speedup registration process and avoid possible errors.
You can transfer your registration for free to anyone else. Text me in advance if you need to cancel your registration.
START TIMES
for preregistered people will be sent by email by 8.00pm the night before. Please make sure you have correct email in your BikeReg account. Day of registration people will follow preregistered people.
SCHEDULE
7.20am - first Individual Bike Time Trial starts
7.42am - last Individual Bike Time Trial starts
7.50am - Speed Skate Men race starts (Mass Start)
7.51am - Speed Skate Women race starts (Mass Start)
8.00am - first Bike Team Time Trial starts
8.30am - everyone should finish
9.00am - Awarding Ceremony at Gwirtzman Triangle with Champagne for Top-3 Overall iTT Men, Overall iTT Women, Skate Men and Skate Women.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR SKATES
Please keep road clear while waiting in the line for start. Start will be at Beach 116th St and Beach Channel Drive. Finish will be at Beach 144th St and Beach Channel Drive on the side of Gwirtzman Triangle (watch finish video here: https://youtu.be/7x41MHoV-Rk). Check Strava Segment here. U-turn for skates will be in front of Breezy Point community booth. Watch video below. Skaters must wear helmet!
INSTRUCTIONS FOR BIKES
Riders MUST start with 1 foot on the ground on the whistle. Riders MUST cross finish line and tell their bib number (sometimes hard to read) for their result being precisely recorded.
Please keep road clear while waiting in the line for start.
Start will be at Beach 116th St and Beach Channel Drive. Finish will be at Beach 144th St and Beach Channel Drive on the side of Gwirtzman Triangle (watch finish video here: https://youtu.be/7x41MHoV-Rk). Check Strava Segment here. U-turn for bicycles will be 4.85mi from the start, all the way in the end of Breezy Point community (Beach 222 Street) around green traffic cone with U-turn sign on it.

BICYCLE REQUIREMENTS
In the Non TT Bike Category, riders in this class will compete without Aero Bars or extensions. Disc wheels, spoke covers, and other forms of solid construction “Aero Wheels” such as Trispoke and Spinergy are not permitted. Bicycles shall conform to USAC rules for Mass Start Bicycles. Skinsuits are allowed and any USAC legal helmet may be worn. Example: You are welcome to use TT bike with aero bars and disk wheel in "Cat 4-5" field, but not allowed to use them in "Non-TT Bike Cat 4-5" field.
TEAM REQUIREMENTS
You can choose any team name just for the race, doesn't need to match your Usacycling team or club name. Preferably wear same color jerseys.
NUMBERS
Must be pinned on Right side of the rider’s jersey. Incorrect placement of numbers may lead to incorrect/missing results.

Top-3 from each race must report to the podium area 20 minutes after race is over for awards and media. Racers must be present for the podium ceremony to receive prizes. Racers not present will forfeit their prizes. Podium will be set according social distancing requirements.
RESULTS
Should be available by registration desk 15 minutes after race finish. 5 minutes protest period. Will be posted at Road-Results.com, Verrazano Team Facebook page and emailed to you normally within 48 hours.
COURSE
Perfectly flat and smooth 9mi in and out at Beach Channel Drive at Rockaways between B116st and B144st with skates U-turn in front of the booth and bicycle U-turn at B222st. Strava Segment here. Please arrive in advance to get familiar with the race course and setup. Race course is open to traffic and delimited by signs, cones and marshals at every critical spot.

DIRECTIONS
By car: Follow GPS to 117-01 Beach Channel Dr, Far Rockaway, NY 11694. Please note, that free parking is NOT available in that area after May 15. You can park at Floyd Bennett Field and ride over Marine Bridge to warm up before race.
Riding bicycle: Ride to Beach 116th Street on Beach Channel Drive.
PARKING
There is free weekend parking in the area between October 1st and May 14th. Please park at Floyd Bennett Field in the Summer (May 15 - Sep 30) - the easiest place to park.
Free parking on the street may be available at Beach Channel Dr itself between B115 and B92nd streets on both sides.
Directions to the race from Floyd Bennett Field:
WATER, BATHROOMS & TRASH
You can pick up a free bottle of water in the cooler inside race organizer's van or use water fountain at the finish spot. Closest bathrooms are at Fort Tilden park (next to Marine Bridge). Please use trash receptacle by registration desk or any of park's trash cans.
NOTES
1. You race on your own risk. We just help you to record your result precisely.
2. Race course is open for cars and bikes. Please be careful.
3. This race may be cancelled by Race Organizers due to severe weather conditions etc. Notification of race being cancelled will be sent no later than 8pm the night before race.
