Walk Us Home 5k for Foster Homes - NV

The Division of Child & Family Services is proud to present their Second Annual Family Fun Run/Walk for Child Abuse Prevention Month! This year's theme is "Walk Us Home" to bring attention to the need for foster homes around the State of Nevada. Did you know there are roughly 60 foster homes in rural Nevada for the 400 youth in foster care? Some counties have as many as 14 homes, some counties have as little as 1 or 2. There are even Nevada counties that have no foster homes. When there are not enough foster homes in any given community, children are at risk of being displaced to outside communities. Be a part of the solutions and join us in brining attention to our huge need of foster homes.

Our Family 5k run or walk begins at McFadden Square and tours through the residential neighborhood of West Carson City. Following our 5k we will be hosting a Family Block Party. & Resource Fair. In honor of child abuse prevention month WEAR BLUE signify your fight against child abuse. Please prepare for all types of weather hot or cold. Water Station provided. 

We're thrilled to announce that top finishers in multiple categories will be rewarded for their outstanding efforts. Prizes await the top men, women, kids and teen finishers, adding an extra dash of excitement to the event.

Prevent Child Abuse Nevada (PCAN) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing child abuse and neglect throughout the state of Nevada. The Nevada Division of Child & Family Services (DCFS) is a state government agency responsible for protecting children and strengthening families throughout Nevada. It operates under the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services. DCFS's primary mission is to promote the safety and well-being of children by working collaboratively with families, communities, and other stakeholders. The agency provides a range of services aimed at preventing child abuse and neglect, as well as intervening when children are at risk of harm. DCFS is the sole public foster care agency for the 15 rural counties of Nevada. Striving to maintain enough foster homes so that we can keep kids in their rural communities. 

CASA of Carson City

CASA of Carson City refers to the local chapter of the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program serving Carson City, Nevada. CASA programs operate across the United States and are dedicated to advocating for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are involved in the court system due to concerns about their safety and well-being. In Carson City, CASA volunteers play a crucial role in ensuring that children's voices are heard and their rights are protected throughout the legal process. They provide support and guidance to children during a challenging and often confusing time in their lives, helping to ensure they receive the care and services they need to thrive. By serving as a voice for children in court, CASA volunteers help to promote positive outcomes and permanent placements for children in the foster care system.
