A WORD ABOUT WHY THIS 5K CAME TO BE: This race is being organized by the fine folks from the nursing program at Shorter University who want to do two things: a) Honor our local 'Rometown Heroes' for the noble work they have done and continue to do with regard to COVID-19, and b) to make a difference in the lives of those who depend on food from our local food bank. Your participation in this race helps provide funds to make those meals happen. THANK YOU!

Starting Line: Everyone is encouraged to wear a mask before the 5K. The starting area will be clearly marked to help with social distancing, and there will be several trash cans to allow runners or walkers to toss disposable masks before they start if they would like to discard them.
Water: While we will have water at the finish, we won’t be able to man a water station in the current situation. If you feel like you will need water during the walk or run, please bring some with you.
Weather, COVID, Misc. Issues: All attempts will be made for the race and walk to run as scheduled. This is a rain or shine event. The race and walk are adhering to current COVID protocols. If the race has to be postponed for a weather event or new COVID protocols released by the government, we will schedule a make-up day and time and communicate this information through media channels, our social media accounts, our website, and via the email address that registrants provided on their forms.
With specific regards to COVID 19 for the suggested guidelines to follow when in public, please visit the CDC website. The guidelines are listed here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html With respect to this guidance, following are several steps that are being taken on race day that we would like to make you aware of:
With respect to masks, while our volunteers will be wearing them, the decision to do so is yours. If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask pre-race and/or post-race, please do so. Matter of fact, at the start of the race, as you cross the starting line, please feel free to simply discard it in and we’ll help take care of cleaning them up for you!
With Road Races, this is the one area whereby runners tend to congregate. The Race itself is inherently a social-distancing event given that everyone runs at a different pace. But the “Start” of the race (and typically the 7-10 mins prior to) is the time where people tend to gravitate a bit closer to each other. PLEASE BE MINDFUL to work really hard to keep 6 ft. distance between you and your fellow runners at the start! Everyone will naturally spread out within the first 100-200 meters of the race, but the extra precaution that you need to take is during gathering at the start. So, we ask that you please be especially mindful of Social Distancing during this time.
