In 2021 at the age of 38 I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. I was very fortunate; my body gave me a clue something was wrong, I told my doctor, found the tumor and had it removed quickly before it spread. Many are not so lucky. Colorectal cancer is currently the 3rd leading cause of cancer deaths for young adults and the leading cause for men under 50, but with early detection colorectal cancer is very treatable. Early detection made a dramatic difference in my life and I want to do what I can to educate others on this disease.

To do so I have organized the Blue Ribbon Run-A-Thon to raise awareness for Colorectal Cancer. In partnership with Beebe Healthcare all funds raised will go towards educating our local community on the signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer and the importance of regular screenings. I invite you to make a donation to our cause or you can join us in March for the Run-A-Thon.

LOCATION: Cape Henlopen State Park, Main Beach parking area, Hawk Watch pavilion

THE COURSE: 5K loop thru Cape Henlopen State Park, starting and finishing at the Hawk Watch pavilion: https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/5875510048/

RUN-A-THON FORMAT: The pavilion will serve as our start/finish line, as well as home base during the event. You will receive 1 point for each lap you complete of the 5k course. Your time on the course does not matter, only the number of laps you complete during the day. Run or walk a lap, take a break with friends at the pavilion, then head back out. The schedule and pace is up to you. You have from 8AM to 4PM to complete as many laps as you can. We will have real time scoring at the pavilion so you can keep an eye on how you or your team are doing. The individuals and teams with the most points at the end of day (4pm) are the winners!

As an added bonus, our lap sponsors will be donating $ for every lap completed. The more laps we all complete the more we raise for our cause!

THE RULES:

Run only on marked trails and bike paths. Be aware of other visitors to the park. The trails will not be closed for our event, so please be considerate to other trail users.This is a cup free event, so bring your own bottle or hydration pack. Have a great time!

TEAM SCORING: Members of a team will be scored the same as individuals, with the points for each member added together to make your team score. Teams are not required to stay together. Run as a group or divide and conquer!

AWARDS & AMENITIES: We will have prizes for the Top 3 Men, Women and Teams. Race shirt for all participants, and plenty of food and drink at the Hawk Watch pavilion provided by our incredible sponsors!
