John Polo 5K

Welcome to the 23th annual John Polo 5K!

Thank you for your consideration in entering this SUNY Corning Community College event, which serves as the primary fundraiser for the men's and women's Cross Country programs.

The John Polo 5K, now in its 23rd year, is held in memory of the late SUNY Corning Community College professor and coach, John Polo. Mr. Polo was a member of the SUNY CCC community for more than 28 years, serving in diverse teaching, administrative, and coaching roles over that time. In addition to this race, he founded the Red Baron Half Marathon, held each November. An accomplished athlete and coach, Mr. Polo has been inducted into the SUNY CCC Hall of Fame and the Corning-Painted Post Sports Hall of Fame.

The course, with an agreeable balance of flats and modest elevation changes, reflects the College's mission to serve and engage the local community. Runners begin on campus, making their way out to the main entrance. The route then continues through an adjacent neighborhood, on lightly traveled and well shaded streets. The course re-enters College grounds for the conclusion.

The sport of Cross Country was re-established at the College in 2018, after a 17 year hiatus. In the short time since its re-emergence, the program has produced an NJCAA Region III champion (Women, 2019), regional runner-up (Men, 2020), an All-American (2021), and numerous national meet qualifiers and Scholar-Athlete award recipients.

Race swag will be a custom headband for the first 50 participants.   See picture below.

Top male and female winners will receive a Nike Dri-Fit long sleeve tee with the SUNY CCC Cross Country logo.

Bib pickup will be on race morning starting at 8:30am in the CCC Gymnasium.
