About the event

The Crane Race, hosted in one of the most beautiful places in Israel, is the perfect connection between running and nature. Participants can choose from a Half Marathon, 10km, 5km, Family course, and Special Ability course around the Hula Lake, all of which boast spectacular views and migratory birds. This flat, fast course is ideal for achieving a great PR and ending the year on a high note. The Hula Lake has become a stopping point in the migration route of the Gray Crane. Every year, 30,000-40,000 of the estimated 100,000 cranes that pass through the area remain for the winter. While they are a tourist attraction to the Galilee, they can be a disaster for local farmers. To prevent damage while protecting the birds, many nature organizations have joined a project in 1999. This project has been a success, with most of the damage to agriculture having been avoided. Now, thousands of visitors can enjoy the sight of the cranes every year. The Crane Race not only provides an enjoyable experience, but also helps raise funds for the project and awareness of bird conservation. It is funded by private sponsors, such as EY, which do so without any profit, and the excess funds from the race are transferred to the project. Thus, when people take part in the race, they are supporting the Hula Lake, its crane conservation project, and the entire area.

10 km

I ran 10K here twice: in 2021 (spring edition) and in 2022. The route is a single loop around a lake and is flat with few turns. In 2021 it went counterclockwise but clockwise in 2022. It hardly makes any difference, but just an interesting point to mention. The event takes place in a nature reserve with picturesque views. Everything is well organized, the starts are separated in time, so most HM and 10K finishers cross the finish line in one large group.
