Læsø Marathon
10 Nov, 2011 (Thu)
§staticmap(1552,5,450,250)On June 16th 2012, you’ll be organizing the Læsø Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located?
Læsø is a small Danish island. It is located in the middle of the North sea between Norway, Sweden and Denmark.
How old is the race and why was it created in the first place?
The first race was held in 2004 – I just created the race because I love running and wanted to share the nice nature we have on the island with all the guests who love running too.
What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it?
Læsø Island is a small heaven! Flat and no traffic! I have not finalized the route for 2012 yet – but it will go trough some stunning nature, both on track and roads.
Credit : Ole LindHow many runners do you expect on Saturday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract?
I have a set a limit of 400 runners and I expect “full house”.
This is a small run with a top service and the best buffet ever after the race. There will also be live music in the garden where the finish is.
Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances?
Saturday, on the race day, there will be a 10K, 21K and of course the marathon…
At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect?
It is spring in Denmark, nearly summer. The expected temperature is between 15 – 25°C (59-77°F). Can be sun – can be rain.
Credit : Ole LindHave you planned festivities around the marathon?
Oh yes! This marathon have the greatest food ever after the race! The event center is at my old fancy hotel “Strandgaarden Badehotel” and my chefs will do well…
After the races everybody meet in the garden for some nice hours with live music and food (and maybe a good danish beer).
The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Læsø before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing?
Læsø Island have great nature – this is the big thing over here. The Salt mill and the Salt Spa is a must.
You can stay at my hotel if you are fast. www.badehotel.eu
Right now my restaurant is rated no. 1 in Denmark on Tripadvisor.com
In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Læsø Marathon?
Do you love nature? – then go for Læsø Island!

Interview with Ole Lind, Race Director. Ole is a former chief of sports in Orienteering in Denmark and has done quite well on the Danish national team in the ’80s… Now he owns and works at his hotel on the Læsø Island. When the hotel is closed in Wintertime, he lives between Copenhagen and Thailand with his lovely Thai wife Rungtawan.
