About the event
Welcome to the Fairdale Fondo in the Forest. This event will be a mass start event that starts and finishes at First Baptist Church Fairdale. I will give a welcome to all participants and we will roll out together at 10AM on April 13th. There will be 3 routes and the split for these will happen 10 miles into the ride. Each route takes you through the beautiful roads in the Jefferson Memorial Forest. Roads will be open to traffic, but traffic is very light on all the roads anyways. Nevertheless just be aware of the yellow line, oncoming traffic and obey all road signs.
How you “ride” this ride is totally up to you. You can TT the whole course by yourself or you can ride in a group. The course will not be marked, other than the hills. There is a “hill climb challenge” on all the marked climbs throughout the course. I will mark these hills with paint to notify where they start and finish and we will use Strava to determine the winners. You could ride in a group, smash the hills and then regroup at the top of each climb to get the most fun out of the event.
One of my goals with this event is to introduce y'all to Fairdale and invite you to come back in the future. The local coffee shop, the Floral Grind will be providing coffee before the ride starts. And our local BBQ joint, Shack in the Back BBQ will be providing the post-ride meal for all registered participants. There will also be a pre-ride pancake breakfast at the church for all those who want to come early and hang out before the event starts. I'll be flipping the pancakes.
25% of profit from this event will be donated to the local food bank operated at the church. The remaining profit and all donations will be used for Drew's racing budget throughout the year to help him get to and from all the events that are held all across the country.
There will be parking at the church and overflow parking will be about a ½ mile away at Fairdale Elementary School. There are no numbers for this event so there will be no on-site registration. The side doors of the church will be open for the pre-ride breakfast. Doors open at 8am. Bathrooms are located inside the church. The event will finish at Shack in the Back BBQ where you can pick-up your post-ride grub and hang out around the Fairdale pavilion area while people driving by wonder why so many people wearing spandex decided to visit their little town on that particular day.
