The adidas 10 km race is popular between both exercise and competitive runners. Among the participants you will find some of the best runners in the country and those who are competing only with themselves. This circuit extends from downtown Tromsø to the southern tip of the island, returning north to the airport, and back downtown to the finish line at Stortorget.

Kurs-Highlights

The Midnight Sun Marathon is a great trail that starts in the center and goes over the Tromsø bridge after approx. 2km. at the top of the bridge you will have a view towards Tromsdalstinden and the Arctic Cathedral. In Tromsdalen, the track goes south towards Solligården to Berg and on to the turn at Sandvika. The trail goes back the same way over the bridge, through the center of Tromsø, around the southern tip of Tromsøya to the turn at Vangberg, then back to the center and finish in Storgata by Kirkeparken. If we are lucky with the weather, marathon runners will see the midnight sun in the north and have a view of the beautiful snow-covered mountains outside Tromsø. The race and the distance are control measured and certified by AIMS.

Marathon-Tourist.de - The special thing about the run is that you run at night and it doesn't get dark. If the weather is good, you can see snow-covered peaks in the background. The undulating second half of the marathon is still unpleasant to run, especially since there is hardly any support from the crowd or bands. You can find a detailed report here: www.Marathon-Tourist.de

I ran 21.1k in June 2019. It was cloudy, raining, almost no wind and about 11 degrees Celsius. The track was mostly flat (I guess max. 7 m under and above sea level). I loved the location and the fact that it was light in the middle of the night. Everything was well organized. I ran faster than I thought I would run, so that was an amazing experience (1:55:28). It would have been perfect if the sun showed herself :)

The most beautiful course I’ve run. Also one of the most challenging. On the positives: it’s well organised, the scenery is incredible, there’s a lot of kudos for running the most northerly AIMS certified marathon in the world, the novelty of running a marathon at night when it’s still daylight. The negatives: the unexpected elevation, the lack of visible course and distance markers, the sparse crowd support outside of Tromso, the small number of toilets on the route, the poor state of some of the roads (damaged by extreme weather). Although the scenery was beautiful, it did become quite monotonous at the end. The 42.2km field is very small (1,500 runners) so it can feel like you’re on your own for a lot of the race. It was a different experience to any other marathon I’ve run. I’m grateful for the experience but would advise anyone who wants to run this to be aware of the info provided above.

The switchback at the end was cruel. To see the finish line only 250m away but have to run in the opposite direction was very disheartening!

What an awesome experience running through beautiful scenery, topped off with the friendly locals cheering everybody on. I had a fantastic time before and after the race, sightseeing and swimming in the fjord.

The best run I've ever done! The scenery, the crowds, the vibes, the organisation - it was all exceptional. I'm looking forward to doing it again!

I did 10km run. Struggled a bit as I have not done much in July. However I was determined to complete the run in time for closing date. It was a good experience.
