Stephen Sylvestro 5K Memorial Parking Lot Scramble

This race was founded to honor Steve Sylvestro who died September 2020 at age 70.

All proceeds will be donated to the Stephen Sylvestro Scholarship Fund at the Southport School.

Our memorial event is limited to 70 entrants (one for each year Steve lived),

EVENT DETAILS

Our race actually starts in the lower parking lot at Longshore CC, Westport.

To get to the start, follow the entrance road all the way to the end while watching out for stray golf balls and golf carts as you bisect the golf course. At the end bear left at the upper parking lot. Then take a right at the Inn, go past the golf clubhouse which is on the left, and down into the lower lot. Park there and pick up your shirt, relax, hydrate, and get ready for the most unusual start of a race that you've ever been in.

Runners must be in their cars when the race horn is sounded. This is where Steve was often found when he showed up late- not at the actual start line when everyone else was. Once out of your car you will run up to the actual start line where the race begins. Steve often caught up to most of us by the second mile and went past us in the third mile...

When the race starts runners leave their cars and run or walk to the starting line at the entrance to the lot. From there follow the exit road down to South Compo Road. There will be flour arrows on the road, turning signs, and cones to direct you. The race finishes back at Longshore CC in the first parking lot on the right at end of the entrance road - near the Park and Rec building.

There will be snacks, fruit, and bottled water when you finish. There is no water table on the course.
