Run for Rowan 5k

The Rowan University Alumni Association and Rowan Campus Recreation are warmed up and ready to support Rowan students at our 9th annual Run for Rowan 5K!

You’re invited to return to Rowan University’s Glassboro campus on Saturday, April 20, 2024 or join us virtually by completing 3.1 miles (anywhere of your choosing) between April 20 and April 26. Registration for this year’s run will close on April 1.

Proceeds from this year’s event benefit Rowan University’s First-Generation Task Force program initiative Flying First, supporting academic success for first generation students.

All runners will receive a limited edition Centennial 5K t-shirt and full-color medal. Be sure to share photos of your race adventures on RunSignup as well as our social media channels (@rowanalumni) using the hashtag #RunforRowan. A special prize pack awaits the runner(s) with the most #ProfPride!

Can I create/join a team?
Certainly! Feel free to create or join a team to enhance your experience. This year, we've introduced the option for teams to fundraise for the race beneficiary, similar to larger runs such as Race For The Cure | Susan G. Komen®. Creating a team now has a different process during registration.

To become an individual fundraiser, or to create or join a team, click the "Become a Fundraiser" button during registration. Please note that participants who sign up as individual fundraisers can have their ticket fee waived by raising $100 by April 1.

Moreover, there's an opportunity to join or create a team fundraiser. Unlike previous years where teams were primarily for social purposes, team fundraisers now have personal fundraising pages to seek contributions from family and friends. The funds raised contribute to the team goal, and we encourage teams to collectively raise $500 for Flying First. Any donations to your personal fundraising page also count toward the overall team goal. So, while creating a team can still be for fun, you can now also contribute to supporting the race beneficiary.

How do I get my race packet?
Registrants can elect to have their packets shipped to them for an extra $7. After April 1, we cannot guarantee packets will arrive by April 20. Packet pick-up will be available at the Office of Alumni Engagement on Monday, April 15 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and on Tuesday, April 16 from 8:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Packets may also be picked up at the Welcome Tent from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on race day. Any packets leftover following the run will be forfeit.

What are the race categories?
We have expanded our race categories this year! Categories for in-person runners are 9 and under, 10-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+. The top male and female winner in each age group will be awarded as well as an overall male and female winner. Runners who choose the virtual option will not have their finish time considered for awards.

Can children participate?
Yes, children are welcome to participate as long as they can complete the entire 5K by either running, jogging, walking, or strolling. There is not a separate route for children. Special pricing is available for participants aged 0-17 and youth-sized t-shirts are now offered. Each child will receive a race medal. It is important for all children to be accompanied by an adult throughout the event. For the convenience of small children or families running together, they will be requested to start at the back.
