EPIC Azores by Decathlon

Nestled in the middle of the vast Atlantic Ocean lies a hidden gem - the Azores islands. With their remote location, these islands have remained untouched and unexplored for many years. However, this has recently changed as the Azores were named the second best islands in the world for sustainable tourism by National Geographic Traveller.Made up of nine islands, the Azores are a paradise for those seeking a unique and unforgettable experience surrounded by nature. Each island - São Miguel, Santa Maria, Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico, Faial, Flores, and Corvo - offers its own distinct charm and locals say that a lifetime may not be enough to discover all their hidden corners.

For adventurers, the biggest island of the archipelago, São Miguel, is home to the EPIC Azores by Decathlon - a trail race covering a distance of 64.7 km and with a population of 140,000 inhabitants. The route takes runners through the island's three main mountain ranges - Tronqueira Mountain, Fogo Mountain, and Sete Cidades Mountain, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the island.

The EPIC Azores will have four competitive events, including the EPIC110, EPIC60, EPIC30, and EPIC15. The EPIC110 is an ultra trail endurance category covering 107km with a total elevation gain of 6376m. The EPIC60 is an ultra trail category with a distance of 60.1km and 2786m elevation gain. The EPIC30 is a trail category covering 31.4km with 1724m elevation gain. For those looking for a more relaxed experience, the EPIC15 offers a light trail category with a distance of 14.6km and 618m elevation gain.
