KustMarathon Zeeland

The Zeeland Coastal Marathon is one of those marathons a Dutch marathon runner must experience. We usually all start running on pavement, but we only get stronger when we challenge ourselves. This marathon contains several miles across the beach, dunes and the wind can be heavy. But the view of the Dutch coastline is terrific and you also cross the Delta Works, one of the seven wonders of the modern world. The race is organised by volunteers and commercial organisers could learn a lot from these guys. Let's hope they stay independent. Runners first!

Heavy but nice !

Zeeland marathon is one of my personal favorites. It takes you along the coast of the most southern part of the Netherlands, using pathes through the dunes and over the beach. You have to take into account that you may be running against strong wind the whole time. When I ran there in 2004 I was very happy that I was invited to take part in a group of runners which gave shelter from the wind to each other. Always think about combining the race with some days of vacation in Zeeland, e.g. in the beautiful town of Domburg. For registration you have to be very quick. The number of starters is limited strictly, and the race may be sold out within a few minutes.
