Helsinki Marathon

The marathon route leaves much to be desired overall. It doesn’t go through the city center, nor is it very scenic. The start and finish are in a neighborhood on the outskirts of the city. The first 21 km are fine, but from 21 to 42, the route is terrible, with many hills and constantly going around the same neighborhood. The only good thing is that it's not a massive event; in the marathon, there were fewer than 2,000 participants who finished.

I have done a few marathons in short 62 in most European cities and I have to say Helsinki was the worst I have done. It wasn't traffic free and was carried out on the back streets of the city instead of showing off the city. There was no support and no thoughts given to the route. It was a missed opportunity to sell the city. Disappointing.

I like to run big city marathon to see and enjoy it. The starting and finishing point of this course was miserable.

Well organized event, good track, beautiful landscape, lots of fun activities before and after the race! Try it on if you haven't yet!

The second half was horrible. Two loops of 10.55 with so many turns and uphills made it a terrible experience. I will not recommend the full route to anyone...the half route is ok. Otherwise the water support etc was decent

Nice run!

Start line was organised well and route was good to see the city of Helsinki. Finish line organised well and received impressive amount of goodies and fab medal. Was disappointed with lack of crowd support and no Marshall’s were cheering either. It might be a Finnish thing! But there were some music and DJs and bands that high was good. Some of the route around the city was narrow with lots of runners and the traffic including trams were halted by Marshall’s until there were gaps in runners so this was disappointing that the roads were not closed as such. Day before the queue to receive number was enormous so arrive early.

Felt like an overall serious run and would have liked more crowd support.

Was my first marathon thought it was a good route apart from doing laps past the start finish line but will defo be back to Finland what a beautiful place

My first marathon most miles I've done before was 20 so the last 6 miles was a killer want to beat my time on the next marathon I run

Cool weather, sun and rain, not too crowded
