San Antonio Catalyst

The first-annual San Antonio Catalyst is on! Originally conceived by the Elkins duo, we're making two “small” changes: the out-only route is a bit longer at 48 miles and there's now an out-and-back option at a whopping 93 miles. There's no timing and no results, just one mechanical aid station and bragging rights that you completed the hardest cycling event in San Antonio. GPX files are available below.

The ride (or race, if you want extra kudos) will start at OP Schnabel at 6:00am and head north via the Leon Creek Greenway, passing through Salado Creek, McAllister, and Mud Creek, finally ending up at Stone Oak Park. Those choosing to do the full version will head all the way back south to OP Schnabel taking a mix of the same and different trails as the ones on the way north. The majority of the route is singletrack, but there are short stints of paved greenway and public, high-traffic roadways—please be careful when riding these! Those doing the half will have to coordinate transportation from Stone Oak Park themselves after they finish.

For mechanical support, we've partnered with Cognitive Function Bicycle Shop to have a mobile workstation set up at the McAllister Park pump track parking lot to fix any issues you need help with. Outside of that, this is a fully self-supported event: we will NOT offer any sort of fuel along the way. Make sure to pack enough food, water, and tools to last the entire route, or plan to stop at convenience stores along the way.

The backup date is October 5, 2024, in case of inclement weather or poor trail conditions. A confirmation email will be sent out a few days beforehand letting you know the event is on.
