About the event
The Bay to Breakers race is a San Francisco institution, known for its party-like atmosphere, creative costumes, and legendary course. Since 1912, this 12K race has taken runners from the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean, passing through iconic neighborhoods, up the challenging Hayes Street Hill, and into Golden Gate Park. While some take it seriously, many embrace the race’s lighthearted spirit, running in elaborate costumes—or sometimes barely anything at all. It’s a one-of-a-kind event where competitive runners, casual joggers, and wild revelers all share the road.
San Francisco is a city like no other, blending rich history, stunning scenery, and an unmistakable cultural vibe. Beyond the race, runners can explore Alcatraz Island, walk the Golden Gate Bridge, or indulge in the city’s diverse food scene—from Chinatown dim sum to fresh seafood at Fisherman’s Wharf. With easy access from San Francisco International Airport, the city offers a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation.
A Race Like No Other – With wild costumes, high energy, and a festival vibe, Bay to Breakers is more than a race—it’s a celebration.
Scenic & Historic Course – From downtown streets to Golden Gate Park, the course showcases some of San Francisco’s most famous sights.
A Tradition Since 1912 – One of the oldest footraces in the world, this event blends serious racing with pure fun, making it an unforgettable experience.
