Tampa Bay BABES Triathlon

RACE DIRECTOR NOTE | 12.14.23 4:30pm

Hi athletes,

After conferring with our race production team and the county, it’s become clear that we cannot safely hold the Tampa Bay BABES Tri this Sunday. With winds forecasted Sunday at 25-30 mph and gusts 45+ mph as well as a coastal flood warning through Sunday afternoon, there’s unfortunately no way around it as this entire section of coastline will be affected. 

So, here’s the pivot plan … 

We are able to reschedule the live event at Fort Desoto for Sunday, February 18, 2024. Our hope is that most of you will be able to join us then! If you are unable to race with us in person, we will be setting up a virtual category. All athletes in the virtual division will receive their race packet as well as finisher’s gear and medal in the mail. Please allow us some time to firm up the details of how to opt in for your preferred option. 

I realize many of you were joining us from outside Tampa Bay and out-of-state and have made travel arrangements to get here. Please understand the difficulty of making this call, especially in our inaugural year. This weather pattern at this time of year is highly unusual for Tampa Bay - one I don’t think I’ve seen in my 20+ years as a Floridian.

The Tampa Bay BABES Triathlon is the Gulf Coast's only women-focused sprint tri. Join us at the stunning location of Fort Desoto State Park featuring:
1/4 mile swim (forecasted to be wetsuit-legal)
10 mile bike on a flat course closed to traffic
3.1 mile run among Florida's coastal scenery

This race is ideal for first-time and experienced triathletes alike! Hosted by Team BABE Athletics and presented by the Pioneer Home Girls Mortgage team - we are by women, for women - and aim to make this event one you'll return to year after year. Grab a friend and join us!
