SSTS is thrilled to announce the inaugural Bucky’s Boot Top Prohibition Trail Run –7K/14K/21K. The race will be held on Saturday, April 3, 2021 at 8AM EST to benefit The Chattahoochee River Keeper. This race is capped at 50 runners due to limited parking availability as mandated by the State Park. If this race sells out, there will be NO additional spots sold.

This is a loop race on the Boot Top boot-shaped “Loop” starting at the east side of the Dowdell’s Knob overlook area onto the Pine Mountain trail headed eastbound. Runners will take a left onto the 1.3-Mile-long Boot Top Trail that will cut back up and over Dowdell’s Knob Road leading back over to the Pine Mountain Trail towards west of Dowdell’s Knob. Runners will go left onto the Pine Mountain trail headed back to complete the Boot Top "Loop".

This race is a nice change from the usual ol’ trail races around FDR and we know you will want to join us in running ‘round and ‘round the 4.3-mile boot shaped loop running from the law like the Prohibitionists in the ‘30’s! This loop promises a super fun mix of rocky, rooty, and rolling singletrack. If you stop or slow down long enough you will enjoy one of the many waterfalls in FDR, tons of wildlife, the memorial rock at the 1953 plane crash site, and the infamous elephant rock along the way back to the finish line. So come on out to the “east end” of FDR State Park, enjoy a loop or or two or three with friends, and hang out afterwards overlooking the tremendous views of the “Valley” from the beautiful Dowdell’s Knob overlook! (Rumor has it that lots of folks love this spot so much that they get married here – including one of your RD’s!!)

The course: 1 loop for 7K, 2 loops for 14K, and 3 loops for 21K.

Where: Dowdell’s Knob Road, FDR State Park, Pine Mountain, GA (32.84* N, 84.75* W)

Start time: 8 AM EST

Awards: Overall Male and Female prize for each race

No transfers, refunds or deferments allowed.

Cost: 7K: $45 / 14K: $55 / 21K: $65

Pricing goes up to $60/7K and $70/14K and $80/21K if you register after March 13.

Each runner will receive a race shirt and finisher sticker as well as loads of trail cred!

Important Info:
ALL runners for all 3 races will start in staggered heats by bib number – no exceptions! We now have electronic chipped timing and you will be clocked by this system so staggered heats are not an issue.

There will be 2 aid stations on course (one at Boot Top Parking Lot and the Dowdells Knob trail intersection). Each station will have bottled water, Cerasport and all snack items will be individually wrapped. If you are running more than 1 loop, we encourage you to bring any other additional hydration, nourishment, etc. you need to get you through 2 or more hours of running.

BRING YOUR OWN WATER BOTTLE! It will be Springtime in Georgia and the weather could be either extremely hot (or cold) so we require you to carry hydration. We will have only bottled water and bottled Cerasport on course. If you look dehydrated on course, we will pull you. Please don’t be that person and not bring a water bottle!

Parking Fees/Park Pass:
There is a $5.00 parking fee per vehicle in Georgia State Parks. This fee is NOT INCLUDED in your registration fee. There are Self Pay Boxes throughout the park. Georgia Annual State Park passes may be purchased at the park headquarters. Parking is limited so PLEASE carpool!

There may be no race day registration, so get it together and register soon. Please note: ALL runners must toe the line at 8:00AM SHARP – there will be NO late starts! NO EXCEPTIONS.
