The route is extremely boring and will lead you on a motorway for more than 36 km. Nevertheless, the race is flat and extremely well organized with aid stations every 2K. So if you feel comfortable with a hot and humid race starting at 1 am and with ZERO spectator, go for the bling : nice medal and tee-shirts (you get 2...)

Well organized, good flat asphalt, but the route is really quite boring: 10km of motorway, then turn back...

Very well organised! Very cheerful crowd. Route was scenic. Water station serving watermalon was unique. It should be a must for all marathoners I stayed at central. Starting and finishing line was about 5km from CBD. Taxi 🚕 ride cost about 60Baht. Which is about USD1.50. The route are well guarded hence safety is assured.

Beautiful route taking you past the main sights of Bangkok. Friendly crowds cheering you on the whole way!

Quite difficult in the heat.

Bangkok is an exciting city and full of live - unfortunately also full of cars and very crowded. For these reasons the Bangkok Marathon has to take place at night. Another advantage of the race time are the temperatures, which are a little bit lower when it is dark. I have to say that this is the only advantage I can tell you when thinking about this competition. Organization is very bad, and there were probably less than 100 spectators at the course in 2013. It begins with the place where you pick up your bib. It is far outside of the city so that you cannot reach it with means of public transportation. You have to walk a long time or you have to deliver yourself to a Bangkok taxi driver who probably will take three times the price from you as it would be normal. You do not only get your bib at this place, but also already your medal. What a lack of style! In order to get to the start at night you have to take a taxi again. Do not expect that the driver will actually bring you to the starting point. He will argue that alls roads are closed (which is not true) and put you anywhere, hopefully at least near to the start. The start area is in front of the royal palace, which gives it a good atmosphere. Enjoy the time you spend there. Afterwards you will be running lonely over main traffic roads without any sights and without spectators. Every two kilometers you will get water (with ice cubes!) and Gatorade, but do not drink too much! There are no toilets anywhere. When in the end I reached the finish line after a boring run, they offered me some fruit and an original McDonald's hamburger - in Thailand, where you can get phantastic food at each corner, they actually give you junk food at the end of a marathon! However, this suited to the picture which I got from the run. My conclusion: If you are in Bangkok anyhow at the time the marathon takes place and if you are looking for a strange experience, you may participate. Otherwise you should prefer to enjoy the Thai kitchen, to get a massage (try the massage school in Wat Po) or to make a discovery tour through the huge shopping centers. Have fun!

This was a well organized race with a relatively flat route. I would definitely do this race again. If you want a simple route in a straightforward half-marathon, this one is for you.

This is the half-marathon distance.

Starting at 00:00, near the Royal Palace, the route took us over 36km on a suspended road, making Bkk Marathon definitely one of the most interesting marathons I ran. In the first 2km I realized that it was a bit difficult to run even at a slower pace of 5 min per km, because of the heat and pollution in the old center, but after about 3km's we started to climb a bridge, which actually continued as a suspended road for the next 15km's. It was great there, we were about 15-20m high, above people's houses, the wind felt nice, the pollution was much lower, and the air was breathable. It was ok until the last 3km, when we returned to the city, and the hard-to-breathe air from the old center returned. There were about 28°C at the start, with a humidity around 60%, and a real feel of about 32°C. It wasn't exactly the easiest marathon, but I've decided from the beginning that I was going to run it slower than usual. That's what I did. I ran constantly the whole route, my pace being between 4:50 and 5:00 minutes per km. My experience: youtube.com/watch?v=v6uHU4FrqGY
