About the event
Come enjoy the beautiful western Pennsylvania woods, running along side the 2021 River Of The Year, The Shenango River. This trail race will take place on the beautiful Shenango Trail. Once used, long ago, as a trail for a canal system, was turned into a hiking trail, but was long forgotten, and neglected, and almost reclaimed to nature. But now after many years of work, has been brought back to life for everyone to enjoy! This Trail Race will be point to point, starting at the Big Bend trail head, finishing at the beautiful Kidds Mill Covered Bridge. This will be a perfect race for beginners looking to try out trail running for the first time. Or if
you’re a seasoned trail runner, it will be a great course for a flat and fast workout!
Route:
Runners will be shuttled by bus to the start line. The course will be point to point, running completely on beautiful single-track trail, with more than half the course having great views along the river. You will begin at the Big Bend trail head on N. Bend Rd. The course will be roughly 9 to 10 miles in length, running North to Finish at the Kidds Mill Covered Bridge. The course is very flat with only a little over a 100 ft of elevation gain, making it ideal for all levels of runners including beginners, along with experienced runners looking for a good workout! While the trail is flat, footing can be technical. There are many roots along the dirt single-track trail. There will also be many small stream crossings, and depending on weather, some streams could be high, and some areas of trail could be muddy. So be prepared!
Aid Stations:
There will be three aid stations along the course. The first one will be a water only stop at roughly 2.5 miles in. Aid station 2 will be at the half way point of the race, roughly at 4.5 miles, at the New Hamburg road crossing. All runners will be REQUIRED TO CHECK IN AND OUT at aid station 2. There will be water, Gatorade and various nutrition. Aid station 3 will be at roughly mile 7, it will be water and some various nutrition.
