About the event
Join us for the WAWA Adventure Crawl (WAC), an exciting journey spanning approximately 50 kilometers across five Wawa locations in the Middleburg, Orange Park, and Argyle Forest areas of Jacksonville, Florida. Designed as an adventure rather than a race, participants run from one Wawa to the next, purchasing an item at each stop to "check in" and support these local establishments. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Safe Animal Shelter, a local no-kill animal shelter in Middleburg.Teams of at least two people are required to participate, enhancing the experience by sharing the adventure. As an urban event, compliance with traffic laws is mandatory, and streets must be crossed only at intersections with stop lights or stop signs. Violations may result in penalties or disqualification. While participants can have support crews, assistance is limited to Wawa locations, except for the final 10-mile stretch where help is permitted at the Publix shopping center on Oakleaf Plantation Parkway.
The event maintains a laid-back atmosphere, with the organizer, known as Sombrero Dude, offering participant awards and Rule 62-inspired prizes. Although the event is timed, it features a nostalgic touch with minimal timing equipment. A downloadable GPX file of the route will be available, requiring participants to rely on directional skills as there will be few, if any, route markers. A cell phone is mandatory for safety and communication purposes, while a 12-hour cutoff time ensures safe completion in daylight.
Participants are encouraged to contribute to the community by bringing pet food or supplies for the shelter animals, and there's an option to donate additional funds to the organization. The event is capped at 50 participants to maintain an intimate and friendly atmosphere. Thank you for your support and contributions to this memorable journey!
