We are committed to continuing to support people who have been marginalized within cycling, including women, people of color, LGBTQ, transgender and non-binary athletes. The Ann Arbor Velo Club affirms the gender identities of all people and supports the inclusion of all athletes. Additionally, discrimination or harassment of any type on the basis of race, color, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, gender identification, or national origin won’t be tolerated at our events. Please feel free to email us at [email protected] with any questions or feedback.
While our governing bodies and we, as an organization and a community, continue to grow and educate ourselves on how we can better include trans and non-binary athletes, we would like to offer a guide to help people navigate the fields currently offered at our events.
Fields labeled as “Men’s” or “Open” are open to all racers, including those that identify as men, women, or non-binary.Fields labeled as “Women’s” or “Femme” are open to racers that identify as women, and those for whom competition in the women’s field is most athletically or socially appropriate Fields labeled as “Gender Expansive are open to any racer. These fields are currently not eligible for USAC upgrade points. Riders who wish to obtain upgrade points should register in a Men/Open or Women/Femme field. Riders may compete in multiple events. Non-elite athletes (Categories 3, 4, and 5) may self-select the gendered field that best fits with their gender identity, or that they feel is most athletically and socially appropriate..Elite athletes (Categories 2 and 1) may participate in the gendered field which is most athletically appropriate, as determined by USA Cycling Transgender Athlete Participation Policies on Elite Competition.
