Course highlights

Type A course approved by Fidal and World Athletics. After the departure from the Bentegodi Stadium, the runners will move towards the northwest area of the city until they cross the Chievo dam from which they will almost reach Parona around km 11. From here the return which will be all on the very fast Lungadige, a ride without curves up to 18km, will then be on the right the Ponte della Vittoria, to cross the Adige, which will accompany the athletes towards the historic center. We will pass among the most famous monuments of Verona, such as the Basilica of Sant'Anastasia and Piazza delle Erbe with the famous Torre dei Lamberti. Participants in the half marathon now at 20km will head towards Piazza Bra and the Arena to cross the finish line. The marathon runners will cross the Adige again, this time with the Ponte Navi, to head towards the east area in the direction of San Martino Buon Albergo where there will be a splendid surprise. The passage at km 40 is suggestive when the runners will pass under the Porta Vescovo before returning definitively to the historic center and reaching the Arena to end a splendid 42.195km journey. It is important to underline that the marathon runners in the last kilometer will join the half marathon runners but will have a special dedicated and exclusive lane, therefore without interference from those who are finishing the half marathon.

Verona is a beautiful city on the scenic Adige River. The flat course winds thru city streets past many Romanesque churches and along the riverside. Ample fuel at water stops; many helpful volunteers. Attractive medal and T-shirt.

The course may be a bit (200m) longer than 42.2-K but it’s still fairly flat w/out too many sharp turns.

I was really impressed by how well all steps in the process were organized; starting with registration, a bag of goodies with BIP but also a bag with recovery goodies immediately after the race, transportation of our things with truck wardrobes from the start to the finish line and NO CROWD at all when taking over our personal belongings - my bag was almost prepared so it seemed that staff got notified who are the runners who already completed the race and they were preparing bags on time; everyone was super friendly and helpful, even those who did not speak English; Verona is an amazing place to run through, people were motivating runners along the way. I am definitely coming back to the Verona Marathon!

Great route! The atmosphere at the finish line made you feel like you just won the championship! :)

Verona is the most beautiful city and the sun was shining. A great route finishing at the Colosseum after having followed the river. Well organised. Highly recommended on the European half marathon circuit.
