The Marathon of Rennes is known as one of the fastest marathons in France. It is also called 'the green marathon' because for every kilometer you run, a tree will be planted on this planet. So, besides sports, you run for a good cause. A 42.195 KM long run makes forty-two trees. It is not the most easy marathon to run though, with a large part from Cap Malo on countryside through towns before arriving in Rennes. Denivelation +330m D (Paris and Edinburgh for instance are +240m D), with about a halfmarathon distance to run through villages and fields before arriving at the borders of Rennes. Nevertheless it is known as a fast marathon with a good average pace history. On top I want to remark that the Marathon of Rennes is a very well organised marathon. The Marathon of Rennes is a very well organised marathon with a friendly organisation working at a professional level. Everything was organised very well untill in the details. My compliments for that to the Marathon of Rennes. The Pack Marathon with hotel and more is to recommend. The organisation provides free shuttle buses to the starting line. The track through open fields with the winds though... Very tough, in special with the consistent short climbs and descends which made it hard to find your rhythm. Water points with toilet facilities and sweets etc at every 5KM. The 'traffic sign' before the water point at KM 25 with a radar control warning to a 20km/h speed limit during a descend gave me a big laugh. Brilliant ! Water will be provided in the well known plastic drinking cups. Personally I'm having a hard time drinking out of those cups while running, so I stopped every water point to drink the water I needed. Be prepared that the last 5 KM is maybe the most tough. They always are tough in a marathon, but Rennes is over three kilometers with a false flat with probably the wind coming from the West full in your face. At the end of those 3KM of agony, you will turn to city center where the road starts to climb even a bit more. The last kilometer you will rewarded though with a descend on the false flat through the beautiful old city. The strong winds with the track lay out made this marathon in difficulty at same level as the Edinburgh Marathon, I ran in May 2017, which is an IAAF Bronze Label marathon. The Marathon of Rennes provides a good deal for your Bib. A good and fast marathon, a nice finisher t-shirt and medal with this year even the chance to win a new car at the lottery with your Bib number! On top of that, for every KM you will run, the organisation will plant a young tree on this planet. Overall a tough but fast Marathon, one of the fastest in France. So I can recommend you to run.
