Credit : Maros M r a z The 93rd edition of the oldest marathon in Europe was held this weekend in Slovakia. David Kemboi KIYENG claimed victory at the §event_link(257) with a time of 02:08:58. He finished 26 seconds ahead of Elijah Kiprono KEMBOI . Tadesse Mam TEMECHACHU got the third place in 02:10:17. In the ladies race, Chaltu Tafa WAKA took top honors by finishing the race in 02:32:20 .She finished one minute 37 seconds ahead of Emily Chemutai NGETICH. We all know that Boston hosts the oldest marathon in the world. But do you know which is the oldest marathon in Europe ? Athens, London, Paris, Berlin ? No, no. Europe’s oldest marathon is in Slovakia. It is the Košice Peace Marathon which was first held in 1924. After witnessing the Olympic marathon in Paris, three Slovakian official returned to Košice with a dream : organize a marathon in their own country.
