About the event

Kilimanjaro, situated south of the equator and towering at 5 895 metres, is Africa's highest mountain and the highest free standing mountain in the world. Its huge permanent glaciers attract adventurers from all over the world, and its sheer presence dominates the surrounding landscape. Each year, people are invited to join the Kilimanjaro Marathon in the city of Moshi, Tanzania. This standard 42.2 km race, 21.1 km half marathon and 5 km fun run has the official backing of the Tanzania Tourist Board, the Tanzania Amateur Athletics Association, the IAAF, and is registered with AIMS. The route runs at an altitude between 830 and 1150m asl on good tarred roads, and is graced by the looming presence of the mountain in the background. With local crowd support and refreshment points, the run is an excellent qualifier for Comrades. So why not join and experience the thrill of running beneath Kilimanjaro's skies?

That is the second time I joined this event. Almost perfect (with minor issues) but one thing is very bad - all times are gross - nobody cares about net times. Although every runner has a chip. This is not acceptable in 21st century.

6000+ people, fun like crazy, very crowded first 7km, many people simply walking enough water stations only issue: gross times instead of net

It was fun, cool, interesting and indeed challenging because we different people from different locations, the routes you get to know the escarpment of the mount Kilimanjaro , indeed when you participate you wont hesitate to participate again

Beautiful trail, adequate organizer, awesome runners from everywhere and supportive cheerful locals. They were cheering in many spots throughout the running route with friendly and funny little kids engaging with the runners.
