About the event
Sunday February 25th 8am - 1pm
Ever wonder what a triathlon is like but not sure where to start?
Want a safe environment to try the concept of “multisport”?
Ready race a friend head to head and shoulder to shoulder without anyone pulling away?
Ready for something unique?
Then the Indoor Triathlon at Kirk Family YMCA is for you!
The SWIM
Each lane will be assigned two swimmers (starting at opposite ends of the lane) for a total of TWELVE swimmers per round. Each participant will have 15 minutes to swim as many complete lengths as possible. Each length will earn the participant 5 points. The total for the swim leg will be added to the bike and run legs to calculate the total for the event.
Goggles and swim caps are encouraged. No wetsuits, kickboards, pull bouys, or other swim aids will be permitted.
Each lane will be assigned an official to count lengths. Only full lengths will be counted. In the case of any disputes, the lane official’s count will rule.
Transition 1
Be efficient but not need to rush, transition 1 will NOT be timed. Each swimmer will have 5 minutes to dry off and make their way to the stationary bikes. Swimmers WILL have access to the locker rooms between legs and are encouraged to utilize the locker room before following the signs to bikes. If you choose to wear cycle shoes, best practice will be to bring slides to walk from the locker room as you will NOT be permitted to walk in cycle shoes. The time WILL begin 5 minutes after the swim finish. Starting the bike late means you will have less total time to maximize your bike score. There will be NO time extensions.
The BIKE
Use either SPD cleats to clip in or the provided toe cages on stationary bikes to power your bike points! The bike officials will guide you through the “course” by calling mandatory resistance settings. Your total mileage will be multiplied by 40 to calculate your total bike score. This score will be added to swim and run legs to calculate your total event score.
While officials will be there to enforce the resistance settings, we highly recommend you have a great experience by following the rules to prevent potential disqualification. In the event of a dispute, the official’s position will rule.
Transition 2
Again this transition will NOT be timed. You will have 5 minutes to make your way to the treadmills. The timers will begin 5 minutes after the bike finish. Starting the run leg late means you will have less total time to maximize your run score. There will be NO time extensions.
The RUN
How far can you go in 15 minutes? You will be in control of your speed but the run official will be in control of your elevation. It’s tough to find a flat run in Roanoke and you won’t find it here either! At the end of 15 minutes your total mileage will be multiplied by 100 to calculate your total run score. This score will be added to swim and bike legs to calculate your total event score.
While officials will be there to enforce the elevation settings, we highly recommend you have a great experience by following the rules to prevent potential disqualification. In the event of a dispute, the official’s position will rule.
