The Drake Road Races mark the official kickoff for the Drake Relays, with athletes concluding their races on the iconic Blue Oval at Drake Stadium. Since its inception with the inaugural marathon, this event has a storied history with its origins dating back to 1969, where the first finishers started their journey at the Iowa State Capitol. As the first athletic event within the Drake Relays, it continues to be a storied part of the tradition. Cole Decker grinded past more than 1113 runners to win in 01:11:51. He bested Mitchell Davis who crossed the finish line une minute 22 secondes behind him. Rounding out the top three was Nathan Hopp with a time of 01:14:05.
In the ladies race, Samantha Wingert won the race with a time of 01:19:11 , followed by Angela Chaney who finished with a time of 01:24:00. Taylor Grove got the third place in 01:28:07.
