About the event

What is a brevet? A brevet is a non competitive timed distance ride. There is no winner, but in order to be considered a finisher you must finish with maximum elapsed time or 13.5 hours for the 200K and 6.25 hours for the 100K. Along the route you will be asked to take pictures of your bike at locations called “controls”. Each route takes you past a store or location that will have food and water for purchase every 25~ miles. Both rides will leave at 8am from Campus WheelWorks. While it is not a race it is not a no drop group ride. Be prepared to ride alone if you are riding slower or faster. People often slow down and regroup at stores, the top of hills, and controls, but not necessarily. You should bring food/water and a repair kit and be able to repair your own bicycle.

The 100k Route will arrive back at the shop in time for rooftop viewing of the eclipse. The 200k route will view the eclipse during the ride. There are a few locations along the route that will make for excellent viewing depending on how fast you ride the route.

202k (126m)13.5 hour Cut Off

The 202K route heads south towards East Aurora and hits some good climbing before heading north into Niagara county where it flattens out for the second half of the ride. Most of the climbing is done between mile 20 and 50. There will also be a short Dirt Segment leading to the covered bridge control, but a gravel bike is not required; a road bike is the right tool for the job. By mile 50 the route levels off and becomes very flat. The goal was to add some vigorous climbs to make the route interesting without making the entire ride a death march. Once the ride reaches lockport it will follow the Erie Canal Trail back into the city. The Canal Trail will offer some shelter from the Niagara county winds for the last 30 miles of the ride. As a whole the route should be relatively easy and fun for anyone that has ever completed a century before. The extra 26 miles will not be an issue for you as long as you eat early, eat often and keep eating right to the end of the ride. This ride is a great way to dip your toes into long distance riding. There are multiple locations in the GPS route that point out locations that would be great spots to stop and watch the Solar Eclipse that should work for anyone riding no matter the pace.

101K (62.8m) 6.25 hour Cut Off

The 101K route leaves at the same time and follows the 202k route for the first 20 miles or so before splitting off from the 202k route at the second control point in East Aurora. This route also does a fair amount (2000ft) of climbing before flattening out again for the second half of the ride back into the city. There will be a short section of dirt road that leads up to the covered bridge control. You do not need to ride a gravel bike; a road bike is the right tool for the job! Shortly after the covered bridge there will be one last climb before things flatten out for your slightly downhill ride back into the city. No need to worry about finding a nice place to watch the Solar Eclipse on this ride as everyone will be back to the shop in time to join the rooftop viewing party at Campus WheelWorks!
