Informacje o evencie

The Landmine Classic is a premier mountain bike race on the South Shore of Boston run by the Friends of Wompatuck State Park, Bikebarn Racing, and SE Mass NEMBA.  We offer many different race distances in order to welcome as many people into competitive mountain biking as we can, including 25-mile, 11.5-mile, 5.75-mile, and 3.3-mile single-lap courses, plus we offer a free Little Racers Quarter Mile on a wooded course (i.e. not the parking lot).  At Landmine, you get to define what an epic ride is for you. We look forward to seeing you again this year! More information about the race, course, results from past years, etc. can be found at landminemtb.com.

What makes Landmine awesome?

The course
Almost entirely on singletrack, this race showcases a great deal of what Wompatuck has to offer.  Originally the property of the Wampanoag Tribe, in 1655, Chief Josiah Wompatuck, leader of the tribe, deeded the land (now called Hingham, Norwell, Scituate, and Cohasset), to the settlers from England. During the race you will see a variety of trail situations as well as many of the historic features of the park from when this land was used as grazing grounds in the 1800s and a military compound from 1941-1962.  Over the 3.3, 5.75, 12.4, or 25 miles, you will encounter rocks, roots, berms, pavement (minimal), fast and slow trails, etc. Although your head will likely be down and you may miss it, you will also be riding by old bunkers, blasting walls, railway beds, and stone walls.  This course takes you through the best of New England mountain biking!
 The crowd
The Landmine Mountain Bike Classic attracts over 650 racers.  Also, since we have single-lap courses, we're able to put everyone on it at once.  Thus, our mass starts generate a lot of crowd enthusiasm!  We also run a variety of legitimate race options for kids, including a free Little Racers Quarter Mile and also options for a real chip-timed race for even kids as young as 5. Our Little Racers course is a closed-circuit loop near our main staging area and is open all day for families to enjoy.
 Something for everyone
We are a family-friendly race that offers numerous course distances and class options in order to welcome as many people into competitive mountain biking as possible. We believe that all attendees should have an equal opportunity to participate in our event regardless of their race, color, religion, disability, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or national origin. We hope to create a safe and welcoming space for athletes, volunteers, and spectators from different backgrounds, identities, and abilities at our event. We do not tolerate harassment or intimidation and anyone doing so will be asked to leave the event and will be reported to race officials. We look forward to growing the cycling community with you.
 Our volunteers
We put a lot of effort into making sure your day in Wompatuck is excellent and we strive to bring a level of professionalism to Landmine uncharacteristic of events run entirely by volunteers.  All year long we have volunteers maintaining and repairing trails with Landmine in mind.  Our feed zones have enthusiastic staff.  Since we are a single-lap race, it also takes numerous volunteers to mark our entire 25-mile course plus the various extensions.  Our parking team will also have you parked quickly and with ease.  And, our registration team is so good you'd almost think they're professionals.
18 & under are half price or more!
We strive to strike a balance between making sure this race is affordable for families and a good value, while not forgetting that all our proceeds benefit Wompatuck State Park.
All proceeds benefit the Friends of Wompatuck State Park
The Friends of Wompatuck work in partnership with DCR to maintain and improve Wompatuck. We are a group of volunteers (predominantly mountain bikers!) who build and maintain bridges, clip trails, invest in maintenance equipment, and so much more! You can learn more about us at friendsofwompatuck.org.

Directions

Wompatuck State Park is located in Hingham on Boston's South Shore.  Once you reach the park entrance you’re still about 10 minutes from being at the race.  Make sure you leave this extra time beyond what mapping programs and GPS’s indicate.

Navigating via GPS?  Type 204 Union Street, Hingham, MA into your GPS and it will get you into the park.  You then follow the signs to the start of the race.  Warning: some GPS’s still send you to a wrong (locked gate) entrance if you just select Wompatuck State Park.
From all directions: Rt. 3 to Exit 14 (Rt. 228). Follow Rt. 228 North approximately 5 miles to Free Street on the right. Turn right onto Free Street and go one mile to the park entrance on the right (Union St).  Follow the signs to the race course.

FAQs

Can I register on race day?

There is no day-of registration, except for the Little Racer's Quarter Mile (which is free, and ideal for balance bikes or up to 20" bikes). This is not flexible.

What if I registered and need to drop out?

Contact the race directors at [email protected]. It is helpful for us to know. However, registration fees are non-refundable. We are a non-profit and this event is 100% volunteer run, so please consider it a donation to the Friends of Wompatuck. This is true regardless of injury, failure to adequately train (you can change your distance, if needed), sudden schedule conflicts, or any other reason, no matter how valid. You can also not move your registration to a future year or transfer it to another rider.

Can I transfer my registration to a friend?

Registration/Race Bibs are non-transferable.

What's the difference between Cat 1 Open and Cat 2?

Both categories are doing 25 miles, but Cat 1 racers will be doing so at a much faster pace. Typically, a Cat 1 racer is targeting a finish time between 2 to 3 hours (~10 mph), while a Cat 2 racer is pacing to a 3-4 hour (~7 mph) finish time.

What's a Feed Zone and where are they located?

A Feed Zone has water, Clif brand products, first aid supplies, and some bike repair tools/tubes/pump. This is also staffed by volunteers who will cheer you on as your pedal past it. There are two Feed Zones on the course: Feed Zone 1 is 5.6 miles into the race and Feed Zone 2 is on the 25-mile course, located at mile 10.8. Cat 4 (5.75 miles) and Cat 5 (3.3 miles) do not pass through any feed zones. Cat 3 (11.5 miles) only passes through Feed Zone 1.

How do I know where to go on the course?

You will not need to do any self-navigating of the course. The Landmine is always well marked. When racing, you will follow the split signs that MATCH YOUR NUMBER PLATE'S COLOR. These are the color schemes by distance:

Pro/ Cat 1 / Cat 2 = Orange (25 miles)Cat 3 = Blue (11.4 miles)Cat 4 = Green (5.75 miles)Cat 5 = Red (3.3 miles)

When you come to a course split, we’ll have a marshal on hand to help remind you which way to go. However, it will help the marshal if you already know what you’re looking for.  Below is an example of the signage at one of the course splits.

Are e-bikes allowed?

No e-bikes are allowed as part of the race.
