John Michael Morrison Memorial 5K Run, 5K Walk and 1-Mile Fun Walk

John Michael Morrison is the son of Doug and Amanda Morrison. On August 12, 2019, six weeks after his 17th birthday, he lost his life in a car accident. He was starting his Junior year at Randall High School in Amarillo, Tx.

John Michael LOVED TO RUN!! As a Randall Raider his sophomore year, he qualified for and ran with his team at the State Cross Country Meet. He was also the district 3-5A JV Champ in the 1600m & 3200m at the district track meet. But more than running, he loved his teammates. He had a “team first, ALL IN” attitude. He encouraged his teammates in a Christian manner and put the best interest of his team and teammates before his own.

The Morrison Family has chosen to honor John Michael’s character and love of running by awarding scholarships to Senior Class Cross Country/Track runners in the Amarillo Area who exhibit the same character and passion for the sport of running.

Thanks to your ongoing support and that of our AMAZING team of sponsors, volunteers and participants, we were able to present $32,000 in scholarships last spring (2023) bringing the total awarded to $71,000 over the last 4 years.  We anticipate awarding an additional $30,000 in scholarships this year, as well.

We’ve been SO BLESSED by your support and that from our friends, family and the Amarillo community!!!  We're looking forward to CELEBRATING our 5th YEAR as we honor John Michael and celebrate these outstanding athletes who share his passion for running.

Course Play by Play: Start in bus lane of West Plains Junior High, go around bus lane to Paragon Drive.  Turn RIGHT onto Paragon Drive and run all the way to Thunder Road and turn LEFT.  Continue all the way to Alliance Drive and turn LEFT.  Run on Alliance Drive all the way to Challenge Drive and turn LEFT.  Run all the way down Challenge Drive to Excel Ave and turn LEFT. Run on Excel Ave to Progress Drive and turn RIGHT.  Run on Progress Drive to Learning Tree Ave and turn RIGHT.  Run down Learning Tree Ave to Challenge Drive and turn RIGHT.  Continue on Challenge Drive to Alliance Drive and turn RIGHT.  Run all the way to Thunder Road and turn RIGHT.  Run all the way on Thunder Road to Paragon Drive and turn RIGHT.  Continue on Paragon Drive back to the bus lane of West Plains JH.  Run on the bus lane back to the FINISH LINE.
