The Bay to Breakers race is a San Francisco institution, known for its party-like atmosphere, creative costumes, and legendary course. Since 1912, this 12K race has taken runners from the San Francisco Bay to the Pacific Ocean, passing through iconic neighborhoods, up the challenging Hayes Street Hill, and into Golden Gate Park. While some take it seriously, many embrace the race’s lighthearted spirit, running in elaborate costumes—or sometimes barely anything at all. It’s a one-of-a-kind event where competitive runners, casual joggers, and wild revelers all share the road.
