COVID-19 UPDATES
While we are optimistic about our 2021 race, we are also putting safety first. We are closely monitoring restrictions, and planning this year's race in line with COVID guidelines. Moving this race to September, is definitely in our favour. Feb 1st sees registration "opening", however, we're limiting numbers to 100, after which you'll be invited to join the waitlist. Then once restrictions lift, we'll then let racers in, in order.
ABOUT
Back for a 3rd (4th) year, The Lone Wolf is a trail running challenge in Fernie, BC. Previously held in June, this race is moving to September 2021, to give COVID a little more time, to ensure a fun and rewarding day(s) in the Den!
Look forward to a simple, fun, looped race - with a catch. Racers start together on the hour as a pack, needing to finish the loop within the hour. As when the next hour strikes, the race starts again, in the opposite direction. The goal? To complete as many loops as you can.
This year's loop will be similar to past years - a ~6.8km beautiful, manageable, single track loop, with ~220m elevation gain. On paper it seems easy enough to complete within the cutoff time, however pacing and tactics will come into play as the day goes on. And on. Once again, the loop will be washing-machine style – heading clockwise, then counterclockwise, then clockwise and so on. Racers need to make it back to base before the hour cutoff, and be ready to start the loop again, on the hour. If you miss the cutoff, you’re out and you remain in the den.
Unlike other Last Racer Standing formats, this one's a little different - as once you get past midnight, you can expect the RD's to change the rules on you a little...you have been warned!
With a well-stocked aid station, easy logistics for one drop bag at base, and the opportunity to race as a Lone Wolf (solo), Coyotes (2-person team), Cougars (2-person team combined age of >80) or Pups (2-person team combined age of 32 or under), the race caters to a variety of runners, with a variety of goals. Challenge yourself to do one more loop than you thought you could. See how far you can go after a summer of training. Or simply have a great day on the trails, running, cheering and supporting fellow runners.
Whatever your goal, this race promises fantastic #FernieStoke atmosphere, and Fernie Brewing Co. beer (Lone Wolf IPA of course). Alpha Males and Female Lone Wolves will be crowned, with prizing for top three in all team categories (female, male and mixed).
So, think you can outrun the pack and become The Lone Wolf?
