Lettuce Run on Thanksgiving 5K for the Friendly Fridge BX

Join the Van Cortlandt Track Club in our inaugural Lettuce Run 5K, a charity event aimed at supporting the Friendly Fridge Foundation. This foundation is dedicated to aiding the Friendly Fridge BX, which rescues and redistributes food within the community through various initiatives. The demand for a permanent location to handle more food supplies is urgent, and this event aims to generate the necessary funding to meet this need. 1. A single head of lettuce could take up to 25 years to decompose in a landfill, releasing harmful methane gas.
2. The Friendly Fridge BX manages to redirect over 55,000 lbs of food each month.
3. The fridge is emptied of its contents within just a few hours daily.
4. Last year, it provided over 28,000 bowls of nutritious vegetarian soup, predominantly made from rescued vegetables and bread.
5. Partnering with over 25 local schools, houses of worship, and community organizations, the Friendly Fridge BX ensures nothing goes to waste.
6. The fridge receives over 2,500 visits weekly, primarily from seniors and working individuals.

This event is designed to be family-friendly, welcoming participants of all abilities. If running isn’t your preference, you can join the 1-mile walk.
